Introduction : 1948年生于苏格兰，是当今英语世界中享有盛名的归正神学家及牧者。傅博士毕业于苏格兰阿伯丁大学，先后于英美两地多间教会牧会，并且二十多年来一直担任西敏神学院（Westminster Theological Seminary）专任教授，以及其他多个归正神学院之荣誉或客座教授。傅博士是个多产的作家，他继承了清教徒优良的属灵传统，其著作深至学术作品，浅至儿童读物，种类繁多，内容精湛，许多已属当代经典之作。最难能可贵的是，傅博士虽为造诣匪浅的神学家，但他定意以一般信徒作为他服事对象，他大多数的作品都是写给一般信徒的。傅博士以他教学不忘牧养，牧会不离神学的事奉风格见称。他的讲道不仅能把人的心灵提昇到敬拜中，更能把上帝敬虔而丰富的奥秘解开，让人的思想得到光照；而他的教学不仅能够启发学生领会艰深的神学课题，更能把他们带入敬拜之中。凡上过傅博士课的学生都会告诉你，最令他们难忘的不止是傅博士渊博的学问，更是他每堂课开课前的祷告。他总是能够把要讲的课题化成人对上帝的敬拜与生命的回应。有的学生乾脆在他祷告时就悄悄地作笔记，把他的祷词一一记录下来，甚至常有人反应说，有些西敏神学院毕业的学生，祷告时都带点苏格兰腔。傅博士就是以这种教、牧兼备的作风从事他一切的事奉。读者在他每篇讲章和每部著作中，都不难发现这一点。
