刘牧师五十年前在台湾与寇绍恩牧师的父亲寇世远监督齐名，人称「南刘(流)」「北(寇)」。刘牧师能背整本圣经新约以及半本圣经旧约。他提倡基督徒得救后应先花时间扎根在圣经的生命之道话语上，不鼓励直接上「神学院」，因为「知识一多生命一少，神的仆人就会出问题！」
刘东崐牧师在信主之前认为基督教是洋教，中国人有孔孟之道不应该信洋教，因此总是推却。后来刘牧师蒙神拣选呼召全职献身服事，在各地神学院授课；及各地培灵布道。
