  • 1 Judgment on Egypt The word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah the prophet against Jer. 25:15 the nations.

  • 3 “Order the buckler and shield, And draw near to battle!
  • 4 Harness the horses, And mount up, you horsemen! Stand forth with your helmets, Polish the spears, Is. 21:5; Jer. 51:11, 12; Joel 3:9; Nah. 2:1; 3:14 Put on the armor!
  • 5 Why have I seen them dismayed and turned back? Their mighty ones are beaten down; They have speedily fled, And did not look back, For Jer. 49:29 fear was all around,” says the Lord .
  • 6 “Do not let the swift flee away, Nor the mighty man escape; They will Jer. 46:12, 16; Dan. 11:19 stumble and fall Toward the north, by the River Euphrates.

  • 8 Egypt rises up like a flood, And its waters move like the rivers; And he says, ‘I will go up and cover the earth, I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.’
  • 9 Come up, O horses, and rage, O chariots! And let the mighty men come forth: The Ethiopians and the Libyans who handle the shield, And the Lydians Is. 66:19 who handle and bend the bow.
  • 10 For this is Is. 13:6; Joel 1:15 the day of the Lord God of hosts, A day of vengeance, That He may avenge Himself on His adversaries.   • 13 Babylonia Will Strike Egypt The word that the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon would come and Is. 19:1; Jer. 43:10, 11; Ezek. 29:1–21 strike the land of Egypt.
  • 14 “Declare in Egypt, and proclaim in Jer. 44:1 Migdol; Proclaim in Noph and in Ezek. 30:18 Tahpanhes; Say, ‘Stand fast and prepare yourselves, For the sword devours all around you.’
  • 15 Why are your valiant men swept away? They did not stand Because the Lord drove them away.

  • 18 “ As I live,” says the King, Is. 47:4; Jer. 48:15; Mal. 1:14 Whose name is the Lord of hosts, “Surely as Tabor is among the mountains And as Carmel by the sea, so he shall come.
  • 19 O Jer. 48:18 you daughter dwelling in Egypt, Prepare yourself Is. 20:4 to go into captivity! For Noph shall be waste and desolate, without inhabitant.

  • 24 The daughter of Egypt shall be ashamed; She shall be delivered into the hand Of Jer. 1:15 the people of the north.”
  • 25 The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Behold, I will bring punishment on Amon of Ezek. 30:14–16; Nah. 3:8 No, and Pharaoh and Egypt, Ex. 12:12; Jer. 43:12, 13; Ezek. 30:13; Zeph. 2:11 with their gods and their kings—Pharaoh and those who Is. 30:1–5; 31:1–3 trust in him.

  • 28 Do not fear, O Jacob My servant,” says the Lord , “For I am with you; For I will make a complete end of all the nations To which I have driven you, But I will not make Jer. 10:24; Amos 9:8, 9 a complete end of you.
