《约伯记》是圣经中独树一格又非常难读懂的一卷书。一提起《约伯记》，多数人的第一反应是这是一本讲苦难的书。苦难，似乎是人生无法避免的经历。书中人物之一，以利法，说：人生在世必遇苦难。苦难是普世性的，不分国籍、种族、年龄、性别。苦难的种类也多不胜数，涵盖了人生各个阶段、各个层面，有毁坏性的，有预防性的，有管教性的，有惩罚性的，等等。当然，大部分的苦难如果不是因著大自然的律，多是因为人的罪自己的罪或者是别人的罪，而让我们承受了罪带来的结果。但是，本书主人翁，约伯，却是义人受苦，叫人不解，愤愤不平，甚至非常沮丧绝望。
确实，约伯经历了极大的苦难，不仅有身外的剥夺，肉身的折磨，更有心灵的煎熬，几乎到了人类受苦的极限。但是《约伯记》不是单讲到苦难，它更是讲到 神的荣耀。苦难不过是个过程，荣耀才是神的目的。所以《约伯记》是以苦难为背景，以约伯为范例，以神的荣耀为目的。这卷书告诉我们，神在祂所爱的人身上怎样作显明和启示的工作，从而揭开义人受苦那个看不透的幔子。最终，约伯因著神的显现得著安慰及对神、对自己更上一层楼的认识。特别是神与约伯之间的对话，看见他们之间深厚的情谊，看见神对约伯的宝爱，以及约伯对神最终无怨无悔的臣服，没有第三个人可以介入代替神评论约伯。
盼望我们借着一起读《约伯记》，来学习透过神来看苦难，也更认识神是全能、全爱、全智的神，以致当我们经历苦难时，能心存盼望，深信万事互相效力，叫爱神的人得益处。经文林前2:9-10
